At the heart of this invention is a revolutionary idea: using the powerful Dyson V9 digital engine to master a phenomenon called the Coanda effect. This effect consists of propelling air rapidly over a rounded surface, which in turn causes pressure variations and allows air to attach to it. Dyson aerodynamic engineers have used this phenomenon to create a device that allows you to style your hair using only air and little heat. Whether you’re in the mood to curl, wave, straighten or quickly dry your hair, the result will be natural and shiny, while avoiding hair damage caused by extreme temperatures.

The Dyson Airwrap™ is powered by the patented Dyson V9 digital motor, created by a team of motor experts. Fitted with Dyson’s unique styling rollers, this motor allows the Dyson Airwrap™ to style with air without the use of extreme heat.

When the motor is running, a high pressure point occurs at the top of the styling roller. This pressure creates a rapid jet of air that separates into six air slots located around the roller, generating a physical phenomenon called the Coanda effect. This phenomenon allows the hair to automatically wrap around the roller to take shape.
